In 2020, major cities around the globe became epicenters for trial and perseverance. See how seven artists and technologists are inspiring the community to return to the world with wonder.

Containers solve the problem of how to keep software running reliably when it moves from one computing environment, such as Kubernetes, to another. Now Arriving repurposes a shipping container to house an immersive installation that transports visitors to surreal and beautiful new worlds. It brings light back to the community and encourages us to dream again.

Landing at Sprint 2.0 and coming to a city near you.
An experience powered by NGINX Open Source technology.

What do you want visitors to take away from this experience?

Traveling evokes unknown, limitless possibilities. When I agree to travel somewhere, I accept that my destiny involves seeing something brand new. It’s inspiring and motivating, but I’ve missed it. As the world opens back up, I want Now Arriving to remind everyone that those limitless possibilities are still waiting to be found.

Ross Monroe

Creative Technologist

About Ross Monroe:

Ross Monroe is a Seattle-based Creative Technologist who focuses on building interactive experiences that tap into human emotion. With a hands-on approach and a focus on the details, he aims to produce well-thought-out installations that hide the technology, letting people experience what feels like magic when the digital and physical worlds interact.

What do you want visitors to take away from this experience?

Over the past year the world has felt shrunken down and limiting. People all over have been craving something exciting and a return to normalcy. I’m hoping Now Arriving will jump-start visitors’ imaginations and leave them with a sense of wonderment and excitement for the future.

Erik Molano

Brand and Experiential Designer

About Erik Molano:

Erik (he/him) is a brand and experiential designer, creating immersive experiences for all the senses. His projects range from visual identity design and websites to retail spaces and immersive brand environments. He is a hyperactive and curious human, a TEDx organizer, and a former board member of the Seattle Design Foundation.

What do you want visitors to take away from this experience?

We live our lives in a somewhat repetitious cycle. Many of us feel we know what to expect tomorrow, and the day after that. I hope this experience interrupts that cycle in the most surreal way. I want Now Arriving to remind us that when we work together creatively, we can build beautiful, alternate realities.

Elya Le

3D Designer

About Elya Le:

Elya Le (they/them) is an artist who grew up in Poulsbo/Seattle. Their projects range from 3D, motion design, woodworking and mural painting, to project management and fabrication. As well as digital work, Elya loves building immersive experiences in the physical realm and has most recently been creating in 3D mediums such as virtual reality and augmented reality. Elya's most rigorous self-directed project to date was designing, building, and transporting a 20 foot-long wooden dragonfly with color LED wings. As project manager they oversaw a team of ten, and the sculpture was displayed at the 2018 Burning Man art festival at Black Rock Desert, Nevada.

What do you want visitors to take away from this experience?

With 3D you don’t have to listen to gravity or general laws of physics. The endless amounts of capabilities with textures and materials would be nearly impossible in the real world. When attendees leave the experience I want them to feel curious and inspired.

Melissa Housley

Senior Product Marketing Manager & Community Activator

About Melissa Housley:

Melissa Housley is a product marketer, experiential strategist, and community connector, currently focused on helping organizations modernize their application portfolios by bringing infrastructure products to market for F5 and NGINX, with the ultimate goal of enabling continuous delivery of world-class software to production. Though she’s been deep in the enterprise space for the last few spins around the sun, she frequently pulls from her experience in emerging and consumer technologies including Microsoft Mixed Reality, XBOX/343i, and Amazon.

What do you want visitors to take away from this experience?

I believe there is magic in enterprise technology. IT teams and software engineers are also deserving of the delight historically saved for consumers. Prior to the pandemic, the products I worked on didn’t come to life for me until I experienced them at an event in a demo or in the hands of users; I lost a bit of that spark during lockdown with the lack of IRL connection.

The beauty that has come out of the last 18 months is the opportunity to re-think the way we develop products, reach individuals, and connect to the community with open conversation. Through this project, I hope to inspire a bit of imagination and connection that brings technology back to life for all. It’s an experiment available to anyone in the art and technology worlds – or the community at large – who wants to be a part of it. We are all touched by modern applications. Come join us.
